SURFACE FINISH is a priority, a 240-300 is satisfactory for most patterns, although the finer patterns and patterns with less depth a 400-600 finish is recommended. |
DRAFT ANGLES are next, all patterns available from our pattern book have minimum draft angles that decrease as the depth of textures increase, these are not recommendations, they are very important. Some patterns can be modified in order to compensate for lower draft angles. Draft angles should be 1.5 degree for every 0.001" of pattern depth. |

The MOULD itself should be free of components not necessary to the texturing process i.e. waterline connectors sprues inserts. This helps us to mask the surface of the mould that will not be part of the process, if seal off area are not visibly detectable they should be scribed or marked on the tool. In some cases a drawing may need to be provided. |

EDM SCALE is a constant question that comes up. There is only one answer, it must be polished out completely, the texturing process does not react well to the scale left behind after the EDM process, in most cases is does not react at all. The polishing procedure must be done properly, after polishing has removed the visible effect of the EDM procedure there is still the matter of the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) this is usually 0.001" to 0.0015" deeper than the visible scale left by the EDM. Once polishing has completely removed the affected area ther the surface is ready for texturing. (More Information) |
| Welding |
If your welder is talented it might not show up. Most of the time it turns out to be unacceptable. There are some ways to correct the problems associated with the effects of welding, this is a matter that should be brought up prior to shipping your mould, at that time options can be discussed. |
